Isla is a writer, filmmaker and artist working across narrative, documentary, and experimental forms. Based in the Celtic borderlands of the UK, her work comes from a curiosity in the people who live in the quieter corners of society. Isla is drawn to rites of passage and contemporary folklore that interweave the human psyche with the natural landscape.
Isla was named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow following the success of her work, exhibited globally at BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals, broadcast on BBC4, featured on Vimeo Staff Picks, Short of the Week, WaterBear and other platforms. She has been gratefully supported by organisations such as the British Film Institute, Ffilm Cymru, DocSociety, BBC Arts, LUX Scotland, Arts Council England and Statens Kunstfond.
Isla is an alumna of Stowe Story Labs, Less is More, BFI New Writers Lab, Directors UK Inspire, Reclaim the Frame’s Filmonomics, BIFA Springboard and mentors emerging filmmakers at Bristol Film School and the Emerging Voices Film Foundation.
She is currently in development of two narrative features with support from BFI, Ffilm Cymru and DocSociety.
